Koshas – Five Layers of Being

While science in its attempt to comprehend life reduces us to mere automatons, we are in fact made up of multiple layers of energy, all vibrating at their own unique frequency.

The outermost and finest of them all is often referred to as the Bliss Body. In this gossamer web of energy all happenings are captured, and from here filter down to the other layers ultimately manifesting as the physical body. Here is our connection to Source where Spirit realizes her desire to experience herself.

Everything in the physical realm starts as an impression at the level of the Bliss Body.

The fourth and next layer, the Wisdom Body is slightly denser. It is the perceiver of that experience, the one who observes it all. In this space there is no judgement, no preconceived ideas, no qualifications. There is only a quiet sense of complete and effortless presence. Here the experience simply is…

Mind is the third and middle layer where thoughts happen.
These subconscious imprints which dominate over 95 percent of our daily life interpret what the Wisdom Body perceives. They qualify that which is being observed by the higher mind in the present moment, based on past events. In this layer the experience becomes good or bad.

Thoughts trigger feelings and create another band of quasi visible vibration, the Energy Body. The Aura as it is sometimes called is denser and carries with it the weight of emotions which form the basis of our physical body. Chemical reactions create a link between energy and matter activating neuro transmitters and creating the physical experience of cells, tissues and organs. Our bodies are the “embodiment” of all of this and all our experiences make us physically who we are.

Although our DNA and genetic make up play a part in the physical formulation, epigenetics has shown that it is our direct every day experience that affects how our genes are expressed.

One of the main pitfalls of Western medicine is its failure to assimilate this knowledge and understand that all layers need to be addressed in order for there to be healing. The chemicals with which it treats disease are naturally produced by the body when toxic emotions and mental patterns are released and balance is restored. Introducing them into the physical body without healing the underlying causes of the disease is only a paliative measure to relieve symptoms and often contributes further to the imbalance.

Healing Yoga accesses all five layers of energy. The meaning of the word Yoga itself – Yoke or Union – signals a healing process where thoughts and emotions are transformed so as to bring Being back into balance creating a new physical reality in the process.
When out of alignment there is a manifestation of disease on all levels. When in balance, the body allows all the sensory perceptions to arise in a state of Bliss. The magic of life is experienced in its full splendor.

She began her training in 1999 with Edely Wallace, (owner of Yoga Matrix Studio in Orlando, Florida) a yogi master, Yoga Alliance founder and author who studied in Belgium, Brazil and the US and who is at present working with lymphatic yoga research. She went on to study with Ariel Albani, a certified wellness and yoga facilitator and Reiki master. She furthered her studies while on a trip to India, practicing with different Eastern yogis and tapping into yoga as a complete path to wholeness. Monika continues to explore the infinite possibilities of wellness that yoga offers by becoming certified in Yoga Therapy at the Amrit Yoga Institute in 2015 and bringing elements of this therapy to her group yoga practice. In 2016 she was certified in the I Am method of Yoga Nidra and is weaving this technique of stilling the mind into her classes. Her Healing Yoga is a meditative flow of breath guided Asanas focused on quieting the mind and connecting with the Higher Self, in order to identify and target areas of imbalance. It is a gentle but mindful practice done with eyes closed so as to keep the focus within. Practitioners are encouraged to listen to their own bodies and to move with the breath, allowing a slow process of stretching and opening areas of holding in need of healing. Each inhale is mindfully guided to the area targeted by the specific asana. Every exhale is used to release tensions and toxins, balancing and healing spirit, mind and body.

  1. Very well put and so interesting. I knew about that but you telling it reinforced it. I like how the neurotransmitters transforms energy into embodiment. Lolita

    1. Thank you! For me it also brought clarity as to the manifestation process. Of course like everything else in the higher realm, the process is non-linear but looking at each layer individually allows for the mind to grasp the essence of it.
